Thank you for visiting rushmi.com. This site is a living collection of photographs that I've taken over the past few years. The idea is for me to post a new photo each day but it varies depending on my free time. I've always had an interest in photography but it was only after I got a digital camera that I really started exploring it as a hobby because I didn't have to worry about wasting film as I learned from trial-and-error.

This site started in September 2004 and for the first couple years I pushed really hard to post as consistently as I could. At the time I was using Blogger to manage my posts and publish them to my web hoster and I became frustrated that I would spend more time trying to coax Blogger to work than I spent on the actual images. The static nature of the pages that Blogger generated just didn't fit with the goals of the site. In September 2007 I finally stopped posting until I could either find or build a better solution.

Then, for a long time, nothing happened.

I eventually decided to build my own engine for managing my posts and dynamically generating content pages and that's what you see before you today. Hopefully this new site will make posting easier and let me concentrate on the images.

The site back-end is written in C# running on ASP.NET and fetching data from a SQL database. If you've got Silverlight installed (which I highly recommend), the front-end is Vertigo's excellent Slide.Show application with the following modifications:

• Data file generated dynamically from SQL
• Additional metadata in image description
• Semitransparent background for image description
• Reduced hover area to trigger description dropdown
• Buttons for "copy to clipboard" and "add to favorites" in description dropdown
• Tooltips
• Provided fixed URL for each image
